The role

The Consultant will be a senior member of the Corporate Services Team in the UK, dedicated to the support, development and delivery of Trucost’s services to its global client base. The Consultant will contribute technical expertise and lead teams conducting detailed environmental analyses across a broad range of client projects - focused primarily on the measurement of environmental performance across products, services, operations and supply chains. Fundamental to Trucost’s approach is the use of natural capital valuation as a means of helping companies and investors understand their dependency on natural systems to grow revenue, profitably. The Consultant must have an excellent understanding of environmental economics and how natural capital valuation techniques can be applied to provide insights to clients. The Consultant will support Corporate Services account managers in the management of strategic accounts including the identification of new opportunities, preparation of sales materials and managing client relationship before, during and after service delivery. 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in an international research team conducting in-depth analytical research on the environmental performance and natural capital dependences of companies across their operations, supply chains and products
  • Develop technical approaches to meet client needs
  • Provide high-quality insights and recommendations from complex information for consultative projects
  • Clearly communicate insights and technical approaches to clients verbally and in writing, including documenting analytical methodologies for reports and developing graphs and charts appropriate for use by senior executives
  • Support Corporate Services account managers in the generation and development of new corporate business, specifically focussed on the identification, management and growth of strategic accounts
  • Support Corporate Services account managers in developing technical approaches for proposals or RFP/RFI responses that recognize client needs and convey Trucost’s value proposition
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse team across multiple locations to conduct research and ensure the quality of assessment findings

Essential skills

  • Experience developing and applying environmental performance metrics to support organizational decision-making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidently presenting complex information to clients in ways that they can easily understand and inform their actions
  • Personable, with a demonstrated strength in planning and executing work assignments independently, and as part of an international research team
  • Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, with a positive, “can do” attitude

 

Preferred Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years professional work experience (following graduation from a college or university) with experience in a number of these areas:

  • A background in environmental research, preferably with an environmental consultancy, including technical experience conducting environmental footprinting, life cycle assessment (LCA), Environmentally Extended Input-Output (EEI-O) Modelling or supply chain environmental impact analysis
  • A good understanding of business and how sustainability can be integrated into corporate decision-making related to: Procurement, risk management, environmental reporting, and product or supply chain optimization
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize technical data to develop business insights on corporate environmental and financial performance
  • The candidate should be conscious of detail and numerically proficient with natural curiosity, and an innovative approach to problem solving. Advanced word-processing and spreadsheet skills are expected
  • Fluency in additional languages (in particular Spanish, French, or Mandarin) will be looked upon favourably

Senior Research Analyst: Environmental Finance

The Role 

The role provides the opportunity to work on cutting edge projects in the field of sustainable finance. The senior research analyst will be a key member of the Financial Institutions Team, dedicated to the support and development of Trucost’s services to banks, asset managers and pension funds globally. The analyst will carry out research on the environmental performance, risks and opportunities related to companies, funds and thematics and how this translates into financial and societal impact for investors. The analyst will contribute to and be responsible for managing a broad range of research projects, including those of a bespoke nature and consultancy work. They will also work with the business development managers in managing client relationships and be involved in some sales support work including technical input for proposals and meetings with prospective clients. The role is client facing with the opportunity for travel.

 

Key Tasks

  • In depth research on companies, industry sectors, regions, economies and thematics to report to the investment community.
  • Analyse the environmental performance of investment funds and credit/loan portfolios using Trucost’s proprietary methods.
  • Research and update financial and environmental information on global listed companies (e.g. MSCI ACWI & FTSE All World) using Trucost’s proprietary database.
  • Account Management – working with clients to advise on the integration of Trucost data and research in their investment and due diligence processes; support them in the use of Trucost’s data and software, and answer technical questions.
  • Project Management of bespoke or consultancy projects.
  • Representing Trucost at meetings with prospects alongside the business development manager, effectively recognising their needs and conveying Trucost’s value proposition.
  • Product development: identifying opportunities within the financial sector for applying Trucost’s data and analytics.

 

Preferred Experience 

  • For this role we are specifically looking for a candidate with a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a financial institution in a role such as corporate lending in a bank, credit risk, fundamental equities or corporate fixed income analysis or similar. 
  • Ideally the candidate would also have environmental or ESG experience. This could include working as an analyst within an asset management, pension fund or bank, helping to integrate environmental factors into the investment or lending decision making processes. Other relevant experience would include working as an ESG/RI analyst for a research provider or in the sustainability field for a management consultancy or Development Finance Institution.
  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of financial markets and investing, as well as knowledge of some of the following sustainability areas that financial institutions are involved in, such as, mainstreaming ESG integration, environmental fund or index creation, environmental risk analysis and reporting of investments in different asset classes.
  • The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The candidate must have excellent project management skills and be capable of leading a project in a client facing capacity and managing others within their project team.
  • The candidate should be conscious of detail and numerically proficient with natural curiosity and an innovative approach to problem solving. Excellent analytical skills are also expected.
  • Ideally the candidate would have an undergraduate and post graduate degree in relevant subjects such as; Economics, Finance, Environmental Economics, Development Economics or Environmental Sciences but this is not critical if work experience is very relevant.
  • The candidate should have a minimum of 4 years work experience post-university.
  • Advanced Excel spreadsheet skills are required.
  • Fluent written and spoken English. Additional languages will be considered favorably.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Professional experience

  • Assuming 2+ years professional experience in a similar role
  • Computer Science related degree(s)

 

Database Skills

  • We are a data driven organisation - Strong Database and reporting skills are a necessity (TSQL, PL SQL)
  • Experience with MS SQL Server Management Tools essential
  • Database Reporting Tools: Jasper, iReport used internally (Crystal Reports experience acceptable)
  • Practical experience with the Microsoft BI: SSRS, SSIS and SSAS very beneficial

 

Development Skills

  • Web Application Development in Java, primarily using Spring
  • Spring Framework (Struts also acceptable)
  • Practical experience implementing Javascript libraries and frameworks such as JQuery, AngularJS, EXT JS is critical
  • Experience using Sencha Complete, Sencha Architect or other Sencha based implementations is very beneficial
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat application server
  • Familiar with Cloud Hosting Platforms (Azure, AWS or Google)
  • Basic HTML / CSS skills
