Director, Financial Services, Trucost North America

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the rapidly growing North American team and manage business development for Trucost solutions provided to the financial services industry. You will develop and execute on a go to market strategy, supervise FI account managers, and assist in developing new, innovative products and solutions to respond to customer needs. You will also manage key accounts in the US, Canada, and Mexico. The role requires excellent public speaking and verbal communication skills, as well as a working understanding of how investors (pension funds, banks, asset managers, development banks) use environmental data to create financial products or manage investment risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing on a strategy to grow Trucost sales to financial institutions in North America.
  • Representing Trucost at meetings with prospective clients, effectively recognizing their needs and conveying Trucost’s value proposition
  • Working with clients to advise them on integration of Trucost data and research in their investment processes, support them in use of Trucost’s data and answer technical questions.
  • Working closely with Trucost’s marketing team to create and deliver thought leadership (white papers, speaking presentations) and with Trucost’s research team to develop new products
  • Prospecting, generating leads and writing proposals; following up on new business opportunities and setting up meetings; planning and preparing presentations; establishing and maintaining client accounts
  • Supervising FI account managers in North America

Essential Skills

  • Understanding of the responsible investment marketplace, and in particular the investment risks and opportunities associated with natural capital (carbon, water, etc.) and ability to distill this understanding into a business plan for Trucost solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence presenting to large groups at public forums, and the ability to write compelling, articulate proposals for innovative solutions.
  • Business development and technical, consultative sales
  • Business acumen, good negotiation skills and persuasiveness
  • Personable, and enjoy networking and meeting new people
  • Self-motivated and results oriented, with a positive, “can do” attitude

Preferred Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years professional work experience (following graduation from a college or university) with experience in a number of these areas:
  • Understanding how financial markets operate, and also in particular how financial institutions are evaluating and incorporating environmental issues in their decision-making and the organizations involved (such as Natural Capital Declaration, UN PRI, Montreal Pledge, US SIF etc.)
  • Understanding of some of the following: carbon foot printing and accounting across asset classes, natural capital accounting, ESG risk and opportunity analysis by investors, integrated reporting, use of environmental data for financial products (funds and indices), sustainability solutions for banking clients, green bond verification.
  • Experience working on a responsible/ESG investment team
  • Experience in sales (or management consulting) to financial institutions
  • Experience managing and supervising other sales professionals and leading business development
  • Speaking and presenting to large groups of people and executive audiences
  • Experience working with global teams and fluency in additional languages (in particular Spanish or French) will be looked upon favorably

Senior Research Analyst: North America

The role

The Senior Research Analyst will be a key member of the research team in North America, dedicated to completing analysis tasks and delivering Trucost’s services to North American clients. The Senior Research Analyst will contribute technical expertise to and lead teams conducting detailed environmental analyses across a broad range of research projects - focused primarily on the measurement of environmental performance across clients’ value chains, including their products, services, supply chains. Fundamental to Trucost’s approach is the use of natural capital valuation as a means of helping companies and investors understand their dependency on natural systems to grow revenue in financial terms. A Senior Research Analyst must have an excellent understanding of environmental economics and how natural capital valuation techniques can be applied to provide insights to clients.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in international research teams conducting in-depth analytical research on the environmental performance and natural capital dependences of companies across their operations, supply chains, and products
  • Develop technical approaches to meet client needs
  •  Provide high-quality insights and recommendations from complex information for consultative projects
  •  Clearly communicate insights and technical approaches to clients verbally and in writing, including documenting analytical methodologies for reports and developing graphs and charts appropriate for use by senior executives
  •  Support the North American account managers in developing technical approaches for proposals or RFP/RFI responses that recognizing client needs and convey Trucost’s value proposition
  •  Work collaboratively with a diverse team across multiple offices to conduct research and ensure the quality of assessment findings

 

Essential Skills

  • Experience developing and applying natural capital valuations to support organizational decision-making
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidently presenting complex information to clients in ways that they can easily understand and inform their actions
  • Personable, with a demonstrated strength in planning and executing work assignments independently, and as part of an international research team
  • Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, with a positive, “can do” attitude

 

Preferred Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years professional work experience (following graduation from a college or university) with experience in a number of these areas:

  • A background in environmental research, preferably with an environmental consultancy, including technical experience conducting environmental footprinting, life cycle assessment (LCA), Extended Economic Input-Output (EEIO) Modeling or supply chain environmental impact analysis.
  • A good understanding of business and how sustainability can be integrated into corporate decision-making related to: Procurement, risk management, environmental reporting, and product or supply chain optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize data and develop business insights from detailed technical analysis and research on corporate natural capital and environmental performance.
  • The candidate should be conscious of detail and numerically proficient with natural curiosity and an innovative approach to problem solving. Advanced word-processing and spreadsheet skills are expected.
  • Fluency in additional languages (in particular Spanish, French, or Mandarin) will be looked upon favorably.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Professional experience

  • Assuming 2+ years professional experience in a similar role
  • Computer Science related degree(s)

 

Database Skills

  • We are a data driven organisation - Strong Database and reporting skills are a necessity (TSQL, PL SQL)
  • Experience with MS SQL Server Management Tools essential
  • Database Reporting Tools: Jasper, iReport used internally (Crystal Reports experience acceptable)
  • Practical experience with the Microsoft BI: SSRS, SSIS and SSAS very beneficial

 

Development Skills

  • Web Application Development in Java, primarily using Spring
  • Spring Framework (Struts also acceptable)
  • Practical experience implementing Javascript libraries and frameworks such as JQuery, AngularJS, EXT JS is critical
  • Experience using Sencha Complete, Sencha Architect or other Sencha based implementations is very beneficial
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat application server
  • Familiar with Cloud Hosting Platforms (Azure, AWS or Google)
  • Basic HTML / CSS skills
