PROJECT MANAGER

Location: New York, USA

The role is for a Project Manager to join our corporate services team in our New York office.  

This role requires an experienced project manager who enjoys solving complex technical sustainability challenges, advising businesses and facilitating solutions, and working with global teams.

You will be responsible for managing a broad range of research projects, focused primarily on measuring and valuing environmental performance and natural capital dependencies across companies, value chains, products and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage complex projects involving globally distributed, interdisciplinary teams.  Develop and execute on project plans and manage company resources, teams and tasks to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in scope.

  • Provide outstanding service delivery on consultative research projects to large multinational corporations. This will include providing insights and recommendations based on an analysis of the environmental performance of companies, their value chains and products using Trucost’s proprietary methodologies, environmental impact measurement tools, and other primary and secondary data sources.

  • Communicate the results of research projects to clients at a senior executive level. Represent Trucost at meetings with prospects alongside the account manager, effectively recognizing their needs and conveying Trucost’s value proposition.

  • Use natural capital valuation techniques to measure and understand the dependency on nature of companies, their value chains and products.

  • Stay abreast of technical and scientific developments in natural capital accounting, water stewardship, green procurement, environmental impact measurement and incorporate these into Trucost products as appropriate and in consultation with Trucost’s Head of Research and management team.

Essential Skills

  • A good understanding of natural capital, including how it is measured and applied.

  • Experience with environmental impact measurement, supply chain, LCA, and/or valuation and an understanding of how to apply these tools in corporate applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information and develop business insights and recommendations from detailed technical analysis and research on natural capital and environmental performance. 

  • A good understanding of business and how sustainability can be integrated into corporate decision-making related to procurement, marketing, risk management, investor relations, environmental reporting, and product or supply chain optimization.

  • Knowledge of key environmental issues that businesses face.

  • Excellent writing skills and verbal presentation skills

  • Ability to thrive in an environment with changing requirements, tight deadlines, and uncertain outcomes and an aptitude for creative problem solving.

Preferred Experience

The ideal candidate would have at least  7+ years professional work experience, with expertise in a number of these areas:

  • Project management, and in particular managing sustainability projects in corporate settings.

  • Working as a highly collaborative member of global teams

  • Environmental reporting or sustainable product development for large corporations.

  • An undergraduate technical degree in a relevant discipline, which include economics, finance, natural resource economics, engineering, or environmental sciences and a post-graduate degree in a related subject.

  • Business degree (MBA) would be looked upon favorably

  • Environmental measurement and management systems, assurance, sustainable supply chains, integrated reporting, carbon accounting and associated commercial software solutions, Life Cycle Analysis and Input-Output modelling techniques.

  • Natural capital valuation

  • Advanced word-processing and spreadsheet skills are expected. The candidate should be conscious of detail and numerically proficient with natural curiosity and an innovative approach to problem solving.

  • Fluency in additional languages will be looked upon favorably

RESEARCH INTERNSHIP (Native Mandarin speaker: Financial Institutions Services and Chinese Banking)

Salary: £6.31 per hour

Location: London

Term: May-July (9 weeks)

The research internship will be a supporting member of the Financial Institutions Team, dedicated specifically to the support and development of Trucost’s services to banks in China. The internship will involve thematic and sector research on bank environmental risk and contribute to a research project that involves Chinese banks and the banking regulator. The intern will report to one project manager who will provide guidance and training throughout the internship. If successful in the internship, the candidate will be offered a full time position where they will have additional opportunities to work with global banks, asset managers and pension funds.

Key Tasks

  • Write Mandarin language in-depth industry and thematic research to quantify environmental risks and internalisation rates

  • Analyse the environmental performance of loan books using Trucost’s proprietary method

  • Account management support – supporting Chinese client account management with communications and research material and answering technical questions.

  • Attend Trucost meetings and events alongside account and business development managers, effectively recognising their needs and conveying Trucost’s value proposition.

Preferred Experience

  • The ideal candidate would have experience in these areas:

  • Excellent Mandarin and English verbal and written communication skills

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, which could include economics and finance, natural resource economics or environmental sciences

  • An understanding of environmental risks to businesses, including how it is measured and applied

  • An understanding of how financial markets operate and a knowledge of some of the following sustainability areas that financial institutions are involved in, such as, China’s green credit policy, China’s emission trading programs, NDRC and MEP initiatives

  • The candidate should be conscious of detail and numerically proficient with natural curiosity and an innovative approach to problem solving. Advanced word-processing and spreadsheet skills are expected
