The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Development and Account Manager to join the Corporate Services team. You will be dedicated to the support and development of Trucost’s services to large multinational corporations in North America.  The role will include growing Trucost’s business in North America and managing existing accounts. This requires a flexible individual to work successfully independently as well as part of a global team. The role will be based out of our busy New York office (other locations can be considered) and offers the opportunity for travel. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing the strategic approach for growing sales in your assigned market area in collaboration with the North American and global Corporate services teams
  • Ownership of a sales target
  • Representing Trucost at meetings and conferences with prospects, effectively recognizing their needs and conveying Trucost’s value proposition
  • Staying up-to-date on market developments effecting your assigned market area
  • Establishing and maintaining client accounts, including following up on new opportunities, setting up meetings, planning and preparing presentations and writing proposals
  • Working with clients to advise on integration of Trucost data and research in their business strategies and decision-making, support them in use of Trucost’s data and tools, and answer technical questions

 

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 4+ years’ work experience, with at least 2 years in a consultative or business development role
  • Demonstrated expertise and industry sector knowledge and business contacts in one or more of the following industry sectors:  building products, oil & gas, water & energy services, healthcare, home & personal care, chemicals, or basic resources. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience generating new business through marketing efforts, presenting to large groups and writing proposals
  • Be self-motivated and results oriented, with a positive, “can do” attitude
  • Excellent business acumen, good negotiation skills and persuasiveness

 

Preferred Experience

  • The ideal candidate would have some experience in a number of these areas:
  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Business/Finance-related disciplines, Environmental Economics, or natural resources management
  • 3+ years’ experience in sales or management consulting to large corporations, helping them understand sustainability in business terms and embed it in their business strategies and procurement, new product development, or finance decision making processes
  • A background being part of a sustainability team for a corporation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of some of the following sustainability areas that corporations are involved in, such as natural capital cost accounting, external disclosure and reporting, environmental risk analysis and valuation, IIRC, CDP, science based targets, environmental metrics.  
  • Understanding of some of the following: climate change, water scarcity risks, natural capital accounting, value chain footprinting, sustainable supply chains, green procurement, integrated reporting, Life Cycle Analysis and Input-Output modelling techniques.
  • Fluency in additional languages and international experience will be looked upon favorably

The Role

The Senior Research Analyst will be a key member of the research team in North America, dedicated to the research and delivery of Trucost’s services to North American clients. The analyst will contribute to and be responsible for conducting the detailed analysis for a broad range of research projects - focused primarily on the measurement of environmental performance across companies, value chains, products, services, and investments. Fundamental to Trucost’s approach is the use of natural capital valuation as a means of helping companies and investors understand their dependency on nature to grow revenue. A Senior Research Analyst must demonstrate an understanding of environmental economics and how natural capital valuation techniques can be applied to provide insights to clients. Senior Research Analysts will work in global project teams to deliver high-quality results to Trucost’s clients.

 

Key Tasks

  • Conduct in-depth analytical research on companies, industry sectors and themes using Trucost’s proprietary methodologies, environmental footprinting tools, financial data, and other primary and secondary data sources.
  • Provide high-quality insights on consultative research projects. This will include providing recommendations based on an analysis of the environmental performance of companies, their value chains and products.
  • Stay abreast of technical and scientific developments in environmental footprinting, science based targets, and natural capital accounting, and incorporate these into Trucost products as appropriate and in consultation with Trucost’s North American Senior Vice President of Research.
  • Communicate the results of research to internal team members and to clients as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse team across multiple offices.

 

Preferred Experience

The ideal candidate would have some experience in a number of these areas:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline such as finance, natural resource economics, environmental engineering or sciences, with a post-graduate degree in a related subject.
  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience, with a demonstrated ability to plan and execute work assignments independently
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize data and develop business insights from detailed technical analysis and research on corporate natural capital and environmental performance, 
  • A background in environmental research, preferably with an environmental consultancy or investment firm, including an understanding of environmental footprinting, life cycle assessment (LCA), Extended Economic Input-Output (EEIO) Modeling or supply chain environmental impact analysis.
  •  A good understanding of natural capital, including how it is measured, valued and applied.
  • A good understanding of business and how sustainability can be integrated into corporate decision-making (related to procurement, environmental marketing, risk management, investor relations, or supply chain optimization) or investment decision-making (portfolio analysis, fundamental valuation, equity analysis, environmental risk analysis).
  • A good understanding of global financial markets and a knowledge of some of the following sustainability areas that financial institutions are involved in, such as, mainstreaming ESG integration, UNPRI, environmental fund or index creation, environmental risk analysis in different asset classes, and sustainability.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, and a strong ability to communicate quantitative results graphically.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence presenting to large groups of people.
  • The candidate should be conscious of detail and numerically proficient with natural curiosity and an innovative approach to problem solving. Advanced word-processing and spreadsheet skills are expected.

The ideal candidate will have some experience in a number of these areas:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience combining Business and Environmental disciplines, with knowledge of technical fields such as finance and natural resource economics
  • 3+ years’ experience in sales or management consulting to financial institutions or large corporations, helping them understand sustainability in economic terms and embed it in their business strategies
  • A background being part of a responsible investment team for a financial institution

The Role

The senior research analyst will be a key member of the Financial Institutions Team, dedicated to the support and development of Trucost’s services to banks, asset managers and pension funds globally. The analyst will carry out research on the environmental performance of global listed companies, funds and thematics including environmental resource use and externality pricing and impact on shareholder value. The analyst will contribute to and be responsible for managing a broad range of research projects. They will also work with the business development managers in managing client relationships and be involved in some sales support work including technical input for proposals and meetings with prospective clients.

 

Key Tasks

  • In depth research on companies, industry sectors, regions, economies and thematics to report to the investment community.
  • Analyse the environmental performance of investment funds and credit/loan portfolios using Trucost’s proprietary methods.
  • Research and update financial and environmental information on global listed companies (e.g. MSCI ACWI & FTSE All World) using Trucost’s proprietary database.
  • Account Management – working with clients to advise on the integration of Trucost data and research in their investment and due diligence processes; support them in the use of Trucost’s data and software and answer technical questions.
  • Project Management of bespoke or consultancy projects.
  • Representing Trucost at meetings with prospects alongside the business development manager, effectively recognising their needs and conveying Trucost’s value proposition.
  • Product development: identifying opportunities within the financial sector for applying Trucost’s data and analytics.

 

Preferred Experience

The ideal candidate would have some experience in a number of these areas:

  • An undergraduate degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics or similar subjects, and preferably a relevant post-graduate degree in the natural resource economics or sustainability field.
  • A background in research, ideally as an ESG or investment analyst within a financial institution such as an asset manager, sell-side research firm or investment bank. Experience in an investment decision making environment.
  • A good understanding of global financial markets and a knowledge of some of the following sustainability areas that financial institutions are involved in, such as, mainstreaming ESG integration, UNPRI, environmental fund or index creation, environmental risk analysis in different asset classes, sustainability solutions and green credit policies for banking clients.
  • A good understanding of environmental impacts and natural capital, including how they are measured and could be applied to investments. Experience in identifying, evaluating and mitigating potential reputational risks and credit losses resulting from environmental issues will be viewed favourably.
  • Knowledge of environmental measurement standards, environmental regulation and integrated reporting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence presenting to large groups of people and enjoy networking and meeting new people
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills.
  • The candidate should be conscious of detail and numerically proficient with natural curiosity and an innovative approach to problem solving. Advanced word-processing and spreadsheet skills are expected.
